Updated. T-Mobile has begun feature the Samsung T729 / Blast in commercials recently. This slider is the follow up to the T719 clamshell and includes a similar SureType-style keypad with two letters on each key in a QWERTY arrangement. Recent FCC documents and support documents from T-Mobile reveal the T729 features a 1.3 Megapixel camera and Bluetooth like its predecessor and appears to add a MicroSD slot. The keyboard can be used in any application, however no mention is made of any Blackberry email application in the documentation. Neither T-Mobile nor Samsung have officially announced the T729 but since ads have started, a launch will most likely occur soon.

Samsung Innovation

The Blast is essentially Samsung's answer to all of the corporate email devices out there. The main focus of the Blast is to be a consumer email device. It's not an answer to the chocolate, it's something completely different. I played with it for a little while, and though it's a good phone, i can't deal with the SureType keyboard. So i'll be sticking to my Wing. In addition to the SureType keyboard and consumer email capabilities, the phone also sports a 1.3mp camera and the standard WAP browser allows for some basic web browsing, of course with the addition of T-Zones unlimited. It's great for normal people who would like email capabilities, but not have to pay the hefty price of a Wing, Dash, or Blackberry that has the corporate features...

While the Blast does put a lot of focus onto messaging, I would disagree that it is the answer to ALL of the corporate email devices.

The BlackJack happens to be the number one selling Windows Mobile smartphone used for both personal and corporate...

Bad design

Wow, this one is really designed poorly. I got to see it today and try it, it works well but the thin screen seems really easy to break, I simply ran my finger on the underside and could see all LCD going nutty. Also, the slide has a big piece for the camera, and when it's slid up, there is a big gap in the back that seems like an easy invite for dust/dirt/problems. Plus, the "full QWERTY that isn't FULL" is pretty lame, it just reduces the letters per numer from 3 to 2, and still makes it hard to letter dial (like "1800-CALLME or whatever). I guess it just seems like a cheap Chocolate knock-off to me...
Maybe the 3 to 2 keyboard is actually Samsung's answer to the Pearl, not the Chocolate?

That's funny, I didn't know that the chocolate was the first slider phone ever. Every slider phone must be a direct knock off then, hmmm... 🙄

the phone is nice we got demo a couple of days ago the screen is bigger than the T809.Its not as thin as it looks its a little thinner than the rizr and by looking at it it will not be cheap at all.And just remember that the chocolate was a knockoff o...

At first glance I thought it was a big screen TI graphing calculator. Maybe not what they were aiming for.

T-mobile, worst coverage in the business

So, who cares what phones they have? You can not use them away from big cities or interstate hubs.

Go with a real cell phone company and you will be much happier.

Good Design

I like it. if they can make it in the $100 range it will be great for kids that want a keyboard but think the sidekick is to big and can't afford a Blackberry.
True, just make sure you insure it, especially if it's for a kid, because that screen is looking really suspect. Have you held one?
