Consumer Cellular has launched the first feature phone in the US with an eSIM. The Iris Flip is a white-label, flip-style phone that also has the largest display in its class at 3.2 inches. Consumer Cellular say eSIM makes the phone "easier to activate for users". eSIM replaces a physical SIM card with an over-the air process. Users can activate the phone by connecting to Wi-Fi and following on-screen instructions, or by scanning a QR code provided by Consumer Cellular. eSIMs first appeared in connected smartwatches, and have since been adopted in high-end phones, including iPhones. Their use in feature phones marks a major milestone for the technology. The Iris Flip runs KaiOS with an app store. It sports a large 2-inch outer display and 5 megapixel camera. It comes with 8 GB of storage and supports memory cards up to 32 GB. It's available now in red or black for $69.
