Amp'd Mobile's last effort to secure funding while in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection failed today, forcing the company to close its doors after four years of operations. Since it filed for bankruptcy on June 1, Amp'd had been racking up $370,000 in charges a day with carrier partner Verizon Wireless. It was in negotiations with King's Road Investment, but the talks failed to result in any funding for Amp'd. Earlier this week, Verizon Wireless petitioned the ruling judge to allow it to halt Amp'd's services, as it was apparent Amp'd could not pay the more than $51 million owed to Verizon Wireless, nor even the $2.5 million bankruptcy figure mandated by the court. Beginning Monday, July 23rd, Amp'd will explore the option of selling off its assets in pieces. Amp'd has forged agreements with some of its subscribers, but no exact figures are available. Update: Amp'd has now posted an update for subscribers warning them that service will be suspended on July 24 and that customer service will be available until close of business Monday to help the port their number without an Early Termination Fee. Update 2: Amp'd is now saying that its service will remain in operation through July 31st. Subscribers have one more week before it is discontinued and they have to find another provider.

Too bad they don't have SIM cards...
then people could have kept their phones and signed up with a live carrier. 🙄
For instant fun...
Take the last T out of the title of this news story.
That is all.
call amp'd and say "my friend was telling me how awesome amp'd is and he gets all these cool features and stuff and i was wondering if you can tell me what your rateplans are" and see what happens.
No.
Creating a new national carrier out of thin air is hard, and very expensive. Both Amp'd and Helio are/were losing money hand over fist.
The difference is that Helio has corporate parents with deep pockets who got into this game expecting<

AMp'd is misleading customers who want to port there numbers
I just called customer service to assist a customer who wanted to port her number from Amp'd to us, she was told not only could she port her number but also transfer her minutes also. To make a long story short the customer service rep told me that a typo had led to customers being informed that they could transfer there minutes 🤣 🤣 ... A Typo!! If you don't believe me call for yourself 1-866-811-0091..
I no longer beleive anything that company says.
And down she goes

And PS--
Better port that number in a hurry or you're out of luck!
Good luck...
...getting that $51 million back, Verizon.

Amp'd Canada
No one may know this, but any idea how Amp'd Canada is doing? According to the website they "may" be ceasing U.S. operations, which I took to mean that the Canadian version was doing well, is this true?
It is just a matter of time before Telus cuts Amp'd Wireless customer's off seeing how Amp'd in the US can't pay Verizon Wireless. I'm glad to see the demise of Amp'd Wireless. With 50% of their postpaid customers being deadbeats, I pray no CDMA wirel...

Telecom Neologism
Amp'd (verb, past tense) - state of severe financial distress, brought on by gross ineptitude of leadership. Example:
"Dude, Palm is so Amp'd now that they can't even get the Foleo out on time!"
or alternately: "Sprint just cancelled me for calling in too much - I'm so ******* Amp'd!"
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
