Facebook to Make Ads and Pages More Transparent

Facebook says it has new actions planned to increase the transparency of advertisements and Pages. Companies or individuals that want to display political ads will need to confirm their identity and location to Facebook. Facebook plans to put artificial intelligence to use in helping identify and weed out unauthorized ads. Further, the social network hopes to more clearly label political ads so people can identify the content as an ad, as well as see what entity paid for the ad. Facebook says users in the U.S. should begin to see the labels later this spring. The social network is also taking steps to improve the veracity of Pages. From now on, people who manage Pages with large number of followers will need to be verified by Facebook. Unverified people will not be able to administer or post to their Page, even if listed as a manager. Facebook believes these changes will help prevent abuse during election cycles.
