Google today updated its Google Play Store and Google Play Movies & TV apps with new insight when it comes to video streaming services. People can now easily discover which streaming service includes their favorite movie or show. A search for most any program will call up a list of results detailing where that program is available for streaming, such as Hulu. The search tool is initially compatible with more than two dozen streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video, Showtime, HBO Now/Go, Disney Now, and others. Google will integrate more streaming services over time. Once people find the content they're seeking, they can then cast it to their TV. The Google Play Store includes new ways to browse for content with expanded genres, such as comedy, family, and award-winning movies or TV shows. Moreover, the app integrates personalization based on user preferences. People can thumbs up or thumbs down content to rate stuff. Over time, Google will build a recommendations list based on these ratings. Last, Google Play Movies & TV includes a watchlist tab, allowing people to save shows and movies to watch later. A long press adds any program to the watchlist, and Google will alert people when that show becomes available to rent or buy, or if the price changes, or if it becomes available to stream. The new Google Play Movies & TV app is rolling out to Android devices over the next few days.
