Facebook to Give Local News More Prominence

Facebook today said it is tweaking its New Feed in order to provide people with access to more local news. The social network said it will begin to prioritize local news so people can see topics and/or stories that might have a more direct impact on them and their community. "We identify local publishers as those whose links are clicked on by readers in a tight geographic area," explained the social network. "If a story is from a publisher in your area, and you either follow the publisher’s Page or your friend shares a story from that outlet, it might show up higher in News Feed." This change is being put in pace in the U.S. first and will expand to more countries later this year.
