Plaxo today announced a new BREW application that will allow users to automatically sync and update their contacts on many Verizon phones. The application allows Plaxo users to select which of their contacts to add to the phone's address book and then will automatically update that information if the user or contact changes any information. The application will also backup the phone's contacts, as well as provide access to any contacts the user chose not to sync to the phone. Plaxo offers free online contact sync between many desktop applications, which provides the data used by the BREW service. However the mobile service will cost $4.50 per month. The application will soon be available to Alltel subscribers as well.

Backup Assistant?

How is this better then Backup Assistant? Its more then twice as much, and it appears to do pretty much the same thing.
Sprint has this aswell on their phones. I wish our customers would learn how to use it. 🙄

blah blah back up assistant..

back assistant may be fine if you have no need to sync up with outlook. Ok, so I'm not a fan of Microsoft either but it is on my work laptop and on the home computer. I had a nokia on sprint which worked great with the Nokia PC sync suite and helped keep me updated. Now I have the pantech rebranded as a Nokia nobody wants to support PC sync. Nokia told me it was because of the verizon os on it. I doubt that is the whole truth but it is annoying verizon forces you to their os. Verizon also hasn't provided any kind of pc sync app at all. If this new app truly does what it says and it works on my phone cool! If not Verizon is letting. So while I'm not happy about the 5$ a month Verizon knows some of us will begrudgingly pay it in order to sync ...

Which phones?

Any word on which VZW phones this application will be on? I'd love to be able to have my Blackberry contacts stored in Outlook to sync with my 8100.
It should be available on any get it now enabled phone, so it will work fine with your 8100. This is a monthly subscription, so a mobile office kit might be a better solution.
