Google News & Weather to Show More News & Weather
Google today said it has added more stores to the home screen of its News & Weather app for mobile devices. Specifically, the home screen will list an additional 200 stories in a section called More Headlines. Google says the More Headlines section is easy to scroll through on smartphone screens and offers a deeper look at business, tech, entertainment, sports, and other topics. The section loads on demand so the more you scroll down, the more stories it will load. Google News & Weather incorporates Google's AMP articles, which load faster over mobile connections. The More Headlines section will reach the Android and iOS versions of News & Weather over the come days. The app is free to download from the Google App Store and iTunes App Store.
Google Redesigns Search App with Columns
Google today began rolling out an update to its Android Search app that separates information into two streams. Previously, the app displayed a long column of data, including calendar appointments, weather, news stories, and so on.
Google News to Highlight Local Sources
Google has updated its Google News product across all platforms with improved visibility of locally-sourced stories. The local source tag in Google News highlights local news outlets that have covered large, national news stories.
Yahoo Adds Package Tracking to iOS Mail App
Yahoo today announced an update to its Mail App for iOS devices an added the ability to automatically track packages. According to Yahoo, users will see their shipments from Amazon, eBay, Zappos, Target, Best Buy, Macys.com, and others under the "Yahoo Today" section of the app, which will display shipping date, item description, and expected arrival.
Google News to More Clearly Mark 'Fact-Check' Articles
Google says it will work harder to call attention to fact-check articles within Google News. Google believes fact-check style articles have become an important type of journalism, especially in the context of the presidential election.
