Twitter today expanded the ways in which people can protect themselves from abusive content on Twitter. To start, people can now extend the mute tool to notifications. This means users can prevent keywords, phrases, and even entire conversations from reaching their notifications. Users can already mute abusive accounts. Twitter says this feature will roll out to everyone in the coming days. The refreshed toolset also makes it easier to report abusive tweets or accounts. Twitter says the more direct way to report abuse improves its administrators' ability to respond. Going hand-in-hand with the new reporting tools, Twitter says it has retrained its support teams and improved its internal systems to better manage enforcement actions. Twitter's new tools still rely on users to take proactive action, but it believes working together with the community will help the social network cut down on instances and visibility of abuse.
