Facebook updated its Messenger Platform today, making it possible for people to pay bots directly within Messenger for goods and services. Facebook first launched bots in Messenger earlier this year. Bots chiefly help people communicate with brands. The new version of the Messenger Platform from Facebook first allows brands to create richer user interfaces between its bots and consumers. Specifically, bots can better handle permanent conversations threads with valuable content, such as receipts or itineraries. Further, Facebook is allowing brands to sell products and services directly to customers in Messenger. Consumers can store their payment information in Messenger and pay for goods with just a few clicks. This function will be tested first with some of Facebook's larger partners before being rolled out to everyone. Last, Facebook is making it simpler for people to kick off conversations with bots, as well as share bots with others. It will be up to individual brands and companies to make use of these new bot tools in Facebook Messenger.
