Google Hangs Up On Project Ara, Says Reuters

Google has halted efforts to develop its modular smartphone, dubbed Project Ara, according to sources cited by Reuters. Project Ara has been under development for years, but ran into trouble along the way. For example, Google was forced to rethink the magnets that held the modules in place. The original idea was to create a phone that would allow owners to swap modules any time, adding a camera or extra battery. Google may yet license Project Ara to its hardware partners, but has ceased work on the project in house. Google did not comment on Reuters' story.
