AT&T's Mobile Share Advantage Plans Drop Overages

AT&T today announced new service plans for multiple lines that do away with overage charges. The Mobile Share Advantage program includes unlimited talk and text in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, rollover data, sharable data, mobile hotspot, and unlimited texting to more than 120 other countries. Rather than charge customers overage fees for exceeding their monthly data allotments, AT&T will throttle users back to 2G, or about 128 Kbps, for the remainder of the billing cycle. This is in line with what competitors do. Data plans now start at 1 GB and range up to 100 GB for families, and from 25 GB to 200 GB for businesses. AT&T said new options make the plans more flexible, such as the addition of 6 GB and 10 GB data buckets. Smartphone access charges are now a flat fee of $20 per device. Device payments are extra. The new Mobile Share Advantage plans will be available starting August 21.

T-Mobile's most premium plan, Magenta Max , gets the biggest upgrades, with 5 GB of international high-speed data each month — up to 5G speeds where available — in 210+ countries and destinations.

It's about time.

It only takes this company a few quarters of losing customers to comprehend they are behind in the times. Superior network, yes. Inferior business practices yes as well.

at&t is not losing customers. None of the major wireless carriers are, not even Sprint.

No savings with new plans.....

From what it looks like, yes you'll get an addtional 1GB on something like the existing 15GB data plan and the plan fee would go down $10. However if what I've read is true the monthly device charge would go up from $15/phone (on 15GB data plan) to $20/phone. If you have 4 lines you'll save $10 on the plan but pay $20 more for the device charge netting AT&T an extra $10/month. #FAIL

Seems like it's nothing more than a card shuffle game.
