Facebook Is Doing 'This' to Its News Feed

Facebook today said it intends to reduce the prevalence of clickbait stories in the news feed. Some articles contain headlines or links that tease people into clicking on them by omitting certain details, such as "Facebook is Doing 'This' to Its News Feed." In this example, Phonescoop didn't say what Facebook is actually doing. Such headlines are often referred to as clickbait. Facebook users have told the social network they'd rather see fewer clickbait stories in the news feed, so that's what Facebook is doing. In order to do this, Facebook will change its news feed algorithm to identify phrases that are commonly used in clickbait headlines and the pages and/or domains that typically publish them. Once the offending pages are located, Facebook will lower their ranking in the news feed algorithm so they don't appear as frequently. Facebook said it will be rolling out the new algorithm to all users over the next few weeks.
