Google today said gamers can now create unique, personal IDs for Play Games. Previously, users were forced to use their Google+ profile when signing into Google Play Games. Gamers can select from dozens of avatars, can choose to make their gaming activity public, and can allow people to find them via their email address. Google says moving forward gamers will only need to sign in once per Play Games account, rather than sign in to each game. Gamer IDs are being rolled out over the next few weeks.

Hindsight

It should have been this way from the start. If Google wants to get a bunch of people on to their social networking platform, then they need to create an engaging platform instead of trying to shoe horn everyone who uses a Google service onto it.
