Samsung Reveals Exynos 7870 for Mid-Range Phones
Samsung today announced the Exynos 7 Octa 7870, a new mobile processor that targets mid-level handsets. The 7870 is manufactured using Samsung's 14nm FinFET process and consumes 30% less power than the previous generation 7xxx chip. The 7870 includes eight 1.6-GHz ARM Cortex A53 cores and is paired with an LTE Cat 6 modem with joint carrier aggregation, supporting downloads up to 300Mbps. The 7870's image signal processor helps it capture and playback full HD video, as well as support cameras up to 16 megapixels on the front and back of the phone. Last, the GNSS tools improve GPS performance. Samsung says it expects the Exynos 7 Octa 7870 to ship during the first quarter of the year.
