T-Mobile Announces In-Home LTE CellSpot
T-Mobile today showed off the 4G LTE CellSpot, a "mini cell tower" meant for in-home or in-office use. Similar to T-Mobile's WiFi CellSpot Router, the LTE CellSpot provides full LTE coverage in small buildings up to 3,000 square feet. The CellSpot supports VoLTE, HD voice, advanced messaging, video calling, and fast data. It can manage up to 16 calls at one time and works with any 3G, 4G, or LTE device compatible with T-Mobile’s network. The device requires an internet connection, but self-configures for easy setup. The 4G LTE CellSpot is free to Simple Choice postpaid customers with a $25 deposit. It will be available in stores Nov. 4.
Verizon, Samsung Offer Small Cell for Improved In-Home Coverage
Verizon Wireless today announced the 4G LTE Network Extender for homes and small businesses. The small box provides LTE coverage in buildings up to about 7,500 square feet, including services such as HD Voice and high-speed data.
WeBoost, SureCall Roll Out In-Home Signal Boosters
WeBoost and SureCall both used CES as an opportunity to show off new cell signal boosters. Both products work in a similar fashion: they collect cell signals from nearby cell towers, amplify them, and rebroadcast them within the home to improve coverage and signal strength.
T-Mobile Announces Native Video Calling Service
T-Mobile today announced T-Mobile Video Calling, a service that works with the native phone dialer of select handsets without requiring special apps. Like VoLTE and HD Voice, T-Mobile Video Calling can move easily between LTE and WiFi with no dropped video.
Meet the LG Exalt, Verizon's First LTE-Only Flip Phone
Verizon Wireless recently added the LG Exalt LTE to its lineup of inexpensive flip phones. The Exalt LTE has the distinction of being Verizon's first 4G LTE basic phone, according to the carrier.
