HTC Adds Chromecast Support to Zoe App
HTC today provided a significant update to its Zoe photo/video editing and sharing app. The app now supports Google's Chromecast, which will let users cast a Zoe video from their phone to a Chromecast-equipped TV or other device. The app makes adjustments to the clip sequence user interface, too, which makes it easier to readjust, reorder, and remove clips from Zoes. The app also adds the ability to "retry" failed video uploads, and will now continue playback seamlessly when users rotate their phone (rather than restart from the beginning). HTC's Zoe app is free to download from the Google Play Store.
VLC Video Player Adds Chromecast, HDR, 360-Degree Video
VideoLAN this week updated its open-source VLC media player with a significant number of new features. VLC version 3.0 adds support for Chromecast, which lets people push video from their handset to any device that can receive casted content.
Google Refreshes Its Chromecast Products for TVs and Stereos
Google today announced two new Chromecast products meant to help improve the living room experience. The Chromecast 2 TV dongle uses HDMI to plug into television sets and includes dual-band 802.11ac WiFi for improved performance with the local wireless network.
Update to Google Photos Adds Album Editing Features
Google today pushed out a modest update to the Google Photos app for Android devices and it brings with it several new functions. To start, Google Photos can now recognize animations created by the Google Camera app (think GIFs).
Verizon Adds Casting Support to iOS go90 App
Verizon Wireless updated its go90 mobile video app this week, making it possible to push content from the iPhone to TVs via Apple TV and Chromecast. Verizon says the app has a new design with simplified navigation, and now more visibly curates video content based on category, such as action, comedy, drama, or reality.
Google Renames Chromecast, Adds Tech to TVs
Google today expanded the ecosystem of devices compatible with its casting technology to include standalone displays. The company partnered with Vizio and has added direct casting support to Vizio's P Series displays as well as Vizio's soundbars and speakers.
