Verizon Holiday Phones

Intro Voyager Venus Juke Pearl 2 Comments  100+

Oct 3, 2007, 1:20 PM   by Eric M. Zeman

Verizon Wireless announced four new phones. Read previews of the LG Voyager, LG Venus, Samsung Juke, and BlackBerry Pearl 2 here. Video tours included.

Verizon Wireless unveiled its holiday lineup. Included in the new batch of phones is Verizon's flagship feature phone the LG VX10000 Voyager, dubbed the iPhone killer by some. It certainly makes some advances in the feature phone market with its touch screen user interface, but do the advances really compare to the iPhone?

Following close behind it is the LG VX8800 Venus, which incorporates a dual-screen fascia into a slider form factor. It has style and features to spare.

Rounding out the feature phones is the Samgsung Juke, a MP3-player focused phone that sacrifices functionality for style.

Last on the list is the BlackBerry Pearl 2, a high-speed version of RIM's style-conscious smartphone.

Take a look inside to see what they're all about.

Voyager Pre-Order

Recent Info from Phone Arena: LG Voyager (VX10000) : 11/8 Pre-Order; 11/21 Launch. Do you really need to pre-order on-line in order to get it as soon as they release it? Can I just go to the store and get it there on the 21st? Has anybody used this pre-order option from Verizon before?.
Thank you
Hey there. The whole pre-order deal is to ensure you don't have to worry about the phone getting sold out or even "back" ordered. I used to work for Verizon and everytime a new phone was launched it was available online only, then a few days/weeks lat...

Voyager question

Will I be able to sync my calendar (yahoo) to the calendar on the new Voyager?
No. it's a phone. You could login to Yahoo on the HTML browser.

Data port on Voyager

Is the data port on the voyager a microUSB slot?
there is a micro sd slot, and then there is the data port. The data port is for cabling your phone to your pc to sync music, or use it as a modem.

Usually theres a manufacturer specific cable that connects to usb 2.0 slot on your pc and the other ...

I don't think so. I wasn't paying a lot of attention to the charging slot orthe data slot but LG typically doesn't use the micro usb jacks. That's mostly a moto thing.

🤭 🤭

I would be embarrassed to release such a nice phone with a crippled interface.

The iPhone was good for the competition. It inspires the manufacturers to cater to the fancies of the American public.

Now that the technology has advanced sufficiently, lets combine it all into one device and call it the veal chop.

delicious

ok you know everyone cries about how VZW cripples this and cripples that.

1) AT&T cripples everything they releaseby putting it on that joke they call a network.

2) I'd really like to understand why you feel the UI has been "crippled"?

Screen size is obviously a huge factor when it comes to the competitive aspect. Check it out.

Improvement, but still too Verizon-ish..

I'm not an iPhone user or lover, but since these will inevitably be compared to it, and promoted as the "iPhone Killer" (what a Verizon rep said to me the other day), I have to say, these are no iPhones. Just because you add a touch-screen to a phone, doesn't make it an "iPhone Killer". I think we will see every manufacturer start to come out with integrated touch-screens now that the technology has been developed (evolutionary, maybe).. But Verizon still suffers from their lame, restricted UI's. Although they have jazzed up the icons and menu's (somewhat), the review and pictures still indicate its not as fluid or developed as the iPhone. I think its an improvement by the handset-maker (LG), and I hope we begin seeing many more like th...

yeah I kind of agree with you...I have stated this before. The most revolutionary part of the iphone to me is not the touch screen, but the interface.

A better term would be iPhone neutralizer. It has some better features then the iPhone such as a removable battery and a true keyboard and of course a faster network. What it will do is keep people from leaving VZ to go to ATT. Of course we all have t...

pearl 2

Just noticed on the Blackberry site, it says the Pearl 8130 is slightly thinner than the 8100. But on the video here, the guy says it feels a little thicker. It is also heavier than the original. Really looking forward to this phone. I know it's a year old, but pretty much anyone that has it seems to love it, and now we have more features.

Go figure a company from the orient Stealing the IPHONE UI... 🙄 they can try all they can but any 1/2 decent American would keep their money in the united states and buy the IPHONE, put food on American's tables not south Korea!!
Steal the Iphone's UI? It is different from the Iphone, and LG came out with the Prada phone before the Iphone was ever released.
Sweetie, the LG Voyager has been offered to a carrier who's network can't even support the iPhone so I'm pretty sure a lot of half decent Americans will be purchasing the Voyager when it comes out.
...
So you think the iPhone is made in the US, huh?
So apparently you don't use any brand name items because the majority of techology starts in the "orient" then the u.s. tries to make their version. ever notice how much more expensive good quality things are that are foriegn? or how hondas & acuras ...

In case you didn't know, all iPods, iPhones, and other Apple products are made in China. So it isn't like buying an LG phone is supporting South Korea any more than buying an iPhone is supporting China.

Voyager and Vrzn Data Plans

Do you have to get the data plan in order to get the Voyager?. Vrz data plans are kinda expensive 😡 . Is it possible to get it just with the Vcast-mobile web package? I have the 450 minutes plus text messaging for $45 how much would I have to pay a month to have this phone?

Thank you!
no, you don't HAVE to ahve a data plan.

the Voyager is a cell phone and not a pda. If you get vcast your data is covered. unless you want to try and use it as a modem for a laptop.

Why no pics of the internet on the voyager?

What gives, I wanted to see what it looked like and how you navigated on the web, the review did not really explain this.
I haven't seen any pictures of its HTML browser yet but I have seen pictures of it at Phonearena.com Check it out there. They have Verizon's all new lineup of phones on that website as well.

10th picture of the Voyager?

I don't understand this picture. It shows 2 pictures of the phone. One is the voyager opened up, and the other looks like the voyager slid up to reveal a keypad. But nowhere have I seen or heard that the phone slides up to reveal a key pad. Am I missing something here? Thanks.
yes you are missing something The one slid up is not the voyager, that's the venus

Does the Voyager have any Notepad, Task List or Calendar that...

Can sync with outlook? I know this is most likely a resounding "NO" but if it had just a little PDA like functionality to it, I would be all over it.
yeah it would be nice...but why are you opposed to getting a pda?

I went from an lg8300 to a treo 650 and it was a great move for me personally.

Im actually wondering if I can give up some of the treo features for the voyager.

What is the screen size?

One of the best features of the Iphone is its comparatively huge screen.

What kind of outer screen size is on the outside of this one?

Bigger than the internal one on the vx9800 for instance?
I think it'll be bigger than the itnernal screen because in PHonescoops review of the Voyager, they said browsing the web on the outside touch screen was more enjoyable than on the internal screen. That's the only thing I've read.

Does the Voyager have an email client? If so what protocol.

Does the Voyager have an email client? If so what protocol.
All I know so far is that it's actually got a full html browser on it. No other Verizon phone has ever had that before. It could have wireless sync like the enV has though. like POP3 client for Yahoo or something although i'm not sure yet myself.

Can we get details of web browsing interface or another video on voyager
Yeah that's also what i was going to ask about. Like what is it going to look like? Will it be anything like Safari we browser becuase i'm just used to the standard mobile web 2.0. I'd like to know how Verizon will create a full HTML browser.

Voyager Music

ONe of my biggest problems with my chocolate is that it doesn't read the ID tags for mp3's...so all songs are put in alphabetical order. Does anyone know if this problem will reoccur with the Voyager or will it be a better mp3 player also?
NO idea, but I'm assuming that VCast music will automatically categorize all of your songs into different genres just like how the enV does it now.

Not impressed

So we have a phone with ghastly ugly looks (Juke), a BB that's been out for 1.5 years, and a new Chocolate for the former RAZR heads who got a Chocolate because their RAZRs crapped out and the Chocolate is the new "It thing".

Voyager looks cool I guess. Not for me though. Windows Mobile all the way! 😁
Yeah, The Voyager looks hot but it's bascially an enV with a touch screen, but it's not the touch screen that makes the iPhone hot, it's all the presentation and the ease that you use it with. The whole EDGE thing dooesn't bother me b/c I can get WiFi...

Voyager Internet

I read that you cannot zoom or "pinch" when using the internet browser. Does this mean that even if you load an actual page, it will be extremely tough to read small print? anyone know?
