Maps and Play Music Garner Updates from Google
Google recently pushed out minor updates to Google Maps and Google Play Music for Android devices. Google Maps gained a Local Guides feature that prioritizes reviews and information provided by local experts. Anyone can earn the local guide badge by submitting at least 50 reviews of businesses and/or points of interest. Such reviews are called out in Google Maps with a specific icon to let users know. Google tweaked Play Music with more Material Design elements, new artist pages, and new animations. Menu pages also load faster. Google Maps and Google Play Music are both free to download from the Google Play Store.
Google to Automatically Translate Local Reviews
Google today said travelers will have access to a wider range of local reviews thanks to new translation features. Moving forward, Google said it will automatically translate reviews of restaurants, theaters, and other locations into the language you’ve set on your device.
Google Cleans Up Maps UI
Google today rolled out a fresh version of Maps for Android, iOS, and the web with a cleaner user interface. Google says it eliminated unnecessary UI elements, such a road outlines, while simplifying the typography for street names, points of interest, and more.
Google Maps and Inbox for Android Improved
Google today provided updates to its Maps and Inbox apps for the Android platform. Inbox works better on tablets, adds compatibility with Android Wear (view messages and notifications, reply via voice), and improves suggestions while users type.
Google Play Music Searches Reveal Playable Results
Google has updated its Play Music app for Android devices and made it possible to play songs directly from search results. Now, when users search for a song, album, or artist, the top three results include a "play" button that lets them jump immediately to those songs.
