Nokia will soon join Apple and others by opening mini-stores within a store at all CompUSA locations by March 2006. They have already launched similar concept shops in malls around the US, showing off phones and providing helpful information to buyers who can then purchase handsets from nearby carrier stores. In addition to showing off their standard phones and smartphones, the Nokia stores will also feature the new 770 internet tablet and other products. Nokia has also announced plans to open retail showrooms in major shopping capitals, they started by launching a flagship store in Moscow.

Now that's forward thinking...

It should help tremendously in regards to the "handset uninformed". I'd love to walk into a store showcasing all of one manufacturer's wares. Nice.
And maybe they're preparing for the next evolutionary step where less emphasis is paid to the service provider, and more to the equipment manufacturer. Scoping out and preparing future business models? Might be a thought.
