Review: Sony Ericsson W580i

Is It Your Type? Body Three S's

Sep 18, 2007, 3:52 PM   by Eric Lin

The iPhone isn't the only new music phone on AT&T. The W580i packs a big sound into a tiny slider. With video tour.

Almost a year after AT&T launched the W810 as their flagship music phone, the carrier has finally replaced the stubby little bar with a slim elegant slider that packs a bigger punch in a much smaller size. The only downside is the loss of the W810's autofocus camera.

Did Rich....?

I wonder if he meant to display his work and cell numbers under this review of the phone. Wonder how many calls he will get from phone scoopers? Think I will give him a call.

Will
yeah not his numbers, it woulda been fun though
Go ahead. Call it. It sure as heck isn't my number.

C'mon... we've been doing this for a long time. You really think we'd overlook that? 😉
Yes. Because 555 is a very popular prefix and everyone knows that that is a real number.

Custom Ringtones

Has anyone figured out how to add your own mp3 ring tones. I have tried pieces of songs less than 20 seconds but I never have the option to use them as a ring tone, but I can used them as alerts

Sony W580i Shake Control (It Works Fine, Whats The Deal?)

I found after reading the insructions, (as few of us do) that using the shake control to change song on the w580i work without a hitch, as the instructions state all you have to do is hold the (W)walkman button down and shake or flick the phone and tadaaa it changes tracks, amazing out all the reviews I have read this is the on the top of the list of things that do not work for this phone.

N75 or W580i?

I think this phone is pretty good but the keypad is super tiny and the screen is not that big. Also were the games on this phone trial editions. I also keep wondering why this phone may be better than the Nokia N75 which has symbian and better video by far. I am just wondering if I should keep going through warranty exchange to get this phone. Thank you!
I just returned the n75 because it doesnt have stereo bluetooth(as advertised. Besides that it is a nice phone. I just need one with stereo blue.

Cracked Keys & Video Ringtones...

Users beware. This phone, along with its sister the S500i, are notorious for cracked keys. It is a know issue with SE & easily happens. THey just crack right down the middle, making your phone ugly & having an odd feel when pressing down. More info on HoFO

Video ringtones are enabled on the S500i, not sure if they work on the W580i. Its really cool because you can record your friends via video & apply it as a ringtone. Or record video clips of your fave songs & edit it in VideoDJ. Just overlay your ringtone on the video clip & vioal! Video ringtone. I have 9 of them!
Video Ringtones do work on the w580, and yes cracked keys BIG problem... just sent mine in to be repaired.

video plz

I love your video reviews... and I think these needs one. That way I can watch the w810i video and this one back to back. I'd like to see it compared to the w810 and it would be helpful to see the menus in action. Thanks!
the video review is now online so you can compare them!

"No discernible squeaking noises" Who reviewed this??

I looked at 4 in my hands, and settled on the one I felt had the least amount of creaking and squeaking in my hand and returned it 15 hours later because I couldn't stand the tactile feedback any longer.

Nice concept, but what a small piece of cheap plastic........wow!

Now the Pro's

Amazing screen resolution/clarity/brightness.

Can't wait to see this phone in aciton

I work for at&t, and was kinda looking forward to the newest model of SE Walkman phones. People love this phone, my question is does it still come with the cables and everything you need straight out of box or is it going to be sold separate? That was a big sales closer for the customer, was the included data cable and headset. I can't wait to get these in store! 😁
the headphone adapter, headphones, sync cable and a 1GB are all included in the box.

To Who ever Wrote the Review...

"At 4 out of 8 the ringer is loud enough to overcome everything but a Dethklok concert."

haha thats great.

Seems like SE might have themselves a decent phone for once.
for deth!

i'm glad you could appreciate that.
