Qualcomm Files Patent Suit Against Nokia

Qualcomm today filed a suit against Nokia for infringements of 11 patents owned either by them or their wholly owned subsidiaries. Qualcomm claim they own patents that have been used to speed up GSM data networks that operate on GPRS or EDGE, and that Nokia has violated these patents by selling their phones in the US. Qualcomm claims that they believed any infringements could be worked out amicably until Nokia and others sued Qualcomm for unfair licensing practices of WCDMA technology last week. Nokia has responded indicating this is another example of Qualcomm's unfair practices. After Broadcom launched a suit against Qualcomm earlier this year, Qualcomm responded by suing Broadcom for violation of 6 of the 11 patents named in the Nokia suit.
