Sprint Gets Behind UMTS TDD Too
Nov 2, 2005, 12:27 AM by (staff)
Sprint Nextel has announced they will join the UMTS TDD Alliance, an organization for carriers that have launched the high speed wireless data service. UMTS TDD is a WiMax competitor, meant to provide high speed data to computers over the air. Before the merger, Nextel began trials of UMTS TDD technology in the 2.5 GHz spectrum outside of Washington, DC. The trials are reported to average 1.5 Mbps download and 500 Kbps upload. Sprint has also tested WiMax and Flash OFDM, and is working closely with Intel and others on the development of WiMax. This move does not appear to be an indication that Sprint has chosen UMTS TDD over any other technology.
