Google Preps Android 4.4.4
Google has made factory images of Android 4.4.4 available for download from its developer site. The operating system is for Nexus devices only, including the Nexus 4 and 5 smartphones and the Nexus 7 and 10 tablets. Google has not indicated when it will push the updates out over the air. These updates are for knowledgeable users who can install system updates manually. Google only recently updated the Nexus devices to Android 4.4.3. Google didn't immediately say what is new in the minor system jump.

Google today delivered minor system updates to its Pixel and Nexus devices. The factory images made available from Google for the Pixel and Nexus handsets bring back the "check for update" button within the system settings.
Google Reveals When Nexus Phones Will Cease Receiving Android Updates
Google revised its Nexus support page and provided more information on how long Nexus-branded phones will receive future software updates. Google says Nexus devices will get Android version updates (Lollipop, Marshmallow, etc.) for at least two years from when the device became available on the Google Store.

Google this week said the Nexus 6 smartphone from Motorola should receive the Android 7.1.1 update in the days ahead. The updated system software installs the new app shortcuts, round app icons, the image-enabled keyboard with new emoji, and various bug fixes.

Google today said it plans to push security patches to Nexus-branded Android devices on a monthly basis to make sure they remain protected from potential and developing threats. Google is delivering the first security update today to the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10, smartphones and tablets, and the Nexus Player.
