Facebook Messenger Adds Video Clip Feature
Facebook has pushed out an update to its Messenger application for both Android and iOS and added several new features. The most significant new feature is the ability to record and send 15-second video clips to other Facebook users from within the app itself. This feature is found in competing chat app Snapchat, and will be part of the native messaging app in Apple's iOS 8 when it arrives later this year. The app also makes it easier to share photos and to insert stickers. The iOS version adds "Big Likes," which Facebook says are an even bigger version of its thumbs up graphic. Facebook Messenger for Android and iOS is free to download from the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store, respectively.
Facebook Adds Holiday Cheer to Messenger
Facebook today gave Messenger users access to new holiday-themed stickers and photo tools. A minor update to Messenger for both Android and iOS devices adds new sticker packs, snow globe chat heads, and a New Year's Eve selfie frame.
Facebook Messenger Expands to Apple Watch
Apple Watch owners can now read their incoming Facebook Messenger messages on their wearable. A recent update to the iOS app adds compatibility with Apple's smartwatch.
Facebook Brings Instant Video to Messenger
Facebook today added the ability to stream video live within its Messenger application. The feature is different from a two-way video chat, which has been part of Messenger since 2015.
Facebook Messenger Takes a Shot at Snapchat with 'Days'
Facebook is updating its Messenger application with disappearing stories that behave similar to those of Snapchat and Instagram. The feature, called Messenger Day, lets people create short stories made up of photos and videos and then share them with their Facebook friends.
