LG Electronics today announced the CL400, a dual-mode phone that operates on both GSM/GPRS and Wi-Fi networks. The phone uses UMA technology licensed from Kineto Wireless to provide seamless roaming across both network types. The phone is tri-band GSM 850/1800/1900. A press photo released by LG showed the phone with a Cingular logo on the outer display. The clamshell phone features a camera with flash, MP3 player, and dual color displays. UMA is a 3GPP standard that enables customers to create their own coverage areas via Wi-Fi, featuring faster data rates and potentially lower service cost.

This might be the bring me home phone!!!

This might be the only reason I would go to a GSM carrier, I think it would be awesome to have something like this, I know in a local mall area I would continue to have service w/o any problems since we have some WiFi spots there including my house.

Buy it if you like calling c/s

GSM LG phones are terrible. If you like calling cs a lot for troubleshooting then spend your money and get it. 70% of the troubleshooting I do is on LG phones. Maybe I'll get to talk to you one day
Lg's have been steadily improving.

Mark my words

This will revolutionize the cell industry as we know it.

VOIP with GSM for "rural" coverage. It's going to be great. And once WiMax gets a little bit more widespread, even more so!

This has got to be the coolest GSM LG phone I have ever seen.

Usually LG reserves technology this cool for CDMA only, This is the first time I have even considered buying a GSM LG phone, SWEET!

Cool indeed. But I worry about the words "potentially lower costs". ...
