Motorola tonight announced the Q, the smartphone that has long been rumored as the RAZRberry. This super thin, extremely small device only measures ; 4.6 x 2.5 x 0.45 inches despite its 240 x 320 widescreen display and full QWERTY keyboard. The Q will be one of the first Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, and will be running the Smartphone version. Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphone features Windows Media Player 10, advanced synchronization with Exchange, photo caller ID and speaker independent voice recognition.

In addition to the QWERTY keyboard, the Q features a D-Pad and all the keys required for Smartphone navigation as well as a thumbwheel to ease one-handed operation. The keyboard has EL backlighting like the RAZR, however it features raised individual keys. The Q also has a 1.3 MP camera and LED flash, Mini SD slot and Bluetooth. It is expected in Q1 of 2006.

Motorola seeded this wiki with the manual. Looks cool to me anyway.

Expected Release Date?????

When is this phone really supposed to come out. Q1 2006 is pretty vague and SilverTT is right there is no good information available on this phone. It sounds like Verizon might be the carrier, is that correct?

Also does anyone know if the phone will have Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc? Has WiFi been confirmed?
expected release date for VZW is between March 3 and March 27. no wifi. My Sis works for moto and i was able to play around with the phone for about a half hour on wed. Camera is a 1.3 mp and looks about the same as the v3c. it has a little bit of lag...

There seem to be a bunch of them on sale on eBay right now, in GSM. All the sellers are demanding e-mail conversations before accepting bids, however, so I feel a little uncomfortable about what they're really selling ("Buy it now" prices around $300 ...

Why is no one talking about this phone???

I've been on this site for a while and it seems anytime any phone (crap or not) is about to be released the boards are super active. But for some reason this phone gets no love.

It is almost impossible to find any decent info anywhere on the web about this thing. And unfortunately for me 👿 I want this phone more than any other phone I've waited for. F$%$$###!!!
I feel the same. I think it is a combination of things working against it: the launch of many other Smartphones and WM Pocket PC devises; including the Treo 700w, K-Jam and its variants, Imate SPm5, Cingular 2125, etc...etc...etc.

In addition, M...

GSM or CDMA

Do you know if its going to be for GSM networks or CDMA, or even better BOTH? Also any word on high-speed data? (EV-DO or UMTS)Does it have a touchscreen? Reminds me of a mix between a Blackberry and a Treo 650 but with an internal antenna. This is a nice must have.
They don't have a CDMA razr yet. will not be UMTS, because it doesn't have a second camera for video calling, doesn't even look like it has wifi. This phone has 2 things going for it: 1.razr thinness, & 2.new windows mobile (that might not be such a ...

Motorola may want to play the part of Cingular's poster-boy again, like it did and is doing with the razr. First it was exclusive to cingular because cingular gave motorola a pretty penny for it. then when the term was up, they sold the silver razr ...

If it has an internal antenna, dollars to doughnuts says it's GSM. I'd seriously doubt that they would have UMTS on this one, too early in the tech cycle to have a full-featured phone with that capacity. They'll roll out UMTS phones as UMTS phones, ...

Now they stole the name.
It's GSM for now, but they did promise similar versions for EV-DO and UMTS as well.

Has anyone heard lately about hte launch date fo rthe Motorola Q?

Will it be on Congular? Does anyone know the tangible difference between class 6 and other classes of Edge?

No question it is coming out first on Verizon in EV-DO form. But nobody has posted anything reliable anywhere that I can find to indicate exactly when.

Hi - I too was chatting with the seller - I think it is a scam. I placed a bid to later receive an email from eBay saying the auction was cancelled (without explanation).

i would wait for the phone to be out officially in US market.

Q on eBay is scam

After reading one of the threads on this phone mentioning the ability to purchase the unit - I went onto ebay and placed a bid. The auction was scheduled to end today (26 October) and overnight I received an email from eBay saying the auction was cancelled (without explanation).

I have been chatting with seller via IM and I don't have a good feeling. Seller's IM is rbk099 - has anyone purchased from him/her???

No Wifi!?!

You'd think they would include it. Using WiFi indoors for your transport is a must for me b/c I live in a hilly area and too close to an airport.
That's what I thought - it would be a great shame if it doesn't. But I live in hope as we haven't see the full spec yet ...

My opinion on this matter.

Blackberry consists of 3 main components - the handset, the Blackberry software, and the message routing infrastructure (service). RIM has a licensing relationship with Motorola whereby Motorola can put Blackberry software on the Q so that their handset can interact with our software and service infrastructure. Under this type of arrangement, RIM would receive service and software revenue as if the customer was using RIM's own handset.

Well, that is my take on the situation.

(by the way i own shares of Rimm and motorola)

What should the makers of Blackberry do?

This is design to take Blackberry customer.
This design will not really compete with BB's. Blackberry is an industry standard that IT guys have come to know and love, and they will not give it up easily. Plus, I'm not even sure this has push email

Best I've seen so far.

This is a very nice looking phone. The best part about it is the thin profile. I've come realize that a thin phone is the easiest to pocket even if it is wide. I have a clamshell Sanyo MM-7400 right now, but previously I had a treo 650, and the treo was actually easier to get in and out of my pocket compared to the 7400 because it wasn't as thick. I bet this new Q will be great in that reapect. I am very glad that Motorola didn't go with the Razr's flat keypad design. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who hates that design. So far nothing beats nice raised keys. Has anyone else noticed that the Q's screen is offset to the right a little bit? Probably to make clearance for the mini sd card slot. And as far as the blank space on the bottom of...

I wonder about the battery life

take for instance the Samsung i730, it includes two batteries which should tell you something about the power Pocket PC need to use to use all the funtions.
the i730 also gets pretty poor battery life specs, but i suspect that has to do with the screen & the sereo speakers & the wifi
