AT&T to Allow Google Video Hangouts Over Cellular
Google is delivering an update to its Google Hangouts application that enables video chats over AT&T's cellular network. AT&T modified its policy regarding which apps can and cannot connect video chats via its 3G and 4G networks earlier this year. At the time it said, "Throughout the second half of this year, we plan to enable pre-loaded video chat apps over cellular for all our customers, regardless of data plan or device; that work is underway and expected to be complete by year end." The update is being pushed out in waves through the Google Play Store. Phones with the updated app will be able to view live, two-way video conversations.
Hangouts for Android Adds Video Messages, Improves Invites
Google updated its Hangouts app for Android devices this week with a handful of new features. First and foremost, the app now allows Android owners to record and share video messages — a feature that's been in the iOS version of Hangouts for two years.
Facebook Messenger Gains Group Video Chats
Facebook today launched group video chats within Messenger. The tool will allow up to six participants to view one another in a live video call.
Google Hangouts Improves Contact Design
Google this week updated its Hangouts app for Android devices and made a few performance tweaks along the way. Going forward, Google says it should be easier to find the right contacts quickly thanks to a reshuffled contacts user interface.
YouTube to Enable Mobile Live Video Streaming
Google plans to add live video streaming to its YouTube mobile apps. Google says live streaming will be incorporated into the application's core and won't require a separate app or download.
