US Cellular today launched SpeedTalk, a Push To Talk system which works over the carrier's 1xRTT cellular data network. Users can immediately connect to a single person or groups of up to 20 SpeedTalk subscribers. The service is available on two handsets - Kyocera KX 440 and LG 4750 - as part of some calling plans or for an extra $10 per month on any plan.

Big Deal?

Is this a good decision?

Personally I have never seen the use for this service. I also find the loud talking and little beepy noise to be extremly annoying, especially in a resturant.

I can see the benifits to enterprise customers, but you would think those intrested would have already turned to Nextel. How many US Cellular customers have been hanging around for the PTT service?
this is a terrible decision anyway. people who has nextel and sprint will probably not leave them to go to us cellular or to anyone else who wants push to talk..

everyone knows they are the leader. (nextel and sprint )

anyway, its a waste of tim...

basically, none of you know very much about business strategy or US Cellular. Is it really a waste of time to give nextel, sprint, and who ever else some competition. As well as make money at the same time. There are a lot of people not satisfied w...

I think we're all missing the point here. I don't think U.S. Cellular launched PTT to blow anybody out of the water...or to be an industry leader in PTT. U.S. Cellular had customers that wanted it, so U.S. Cellular launched it...and it works well.

? for nextel 18

hey i'm just curious on how think things will go on the customer service side once the merger goes through. i know sprints cs is absolutely horrible, i was an assistant manager there for a while. their cs is constantly rated near the bottom, and churn was around 2.5 last qtr i believe. do you think this will affect nextel customers at all, or are they planning on keeping everything seperate untill they begin to migrate around 2007 or so? just thought i would see your opinon.
Yea, I would agree with you that sprint's customer care is terrible, but it has been improving and the churn numbers will tell you that. (From the web site... Churn was 2.5% this quarter compared to 2.9% reported a year ago and 2.7% in the fourth quar...

Yawn.... US Cellular is a rich man's toy

🙄

Lets see the big boys like Cingular and T-Mo roll out their PTT solutions.
T-Mobile is a big boy? i wasn't aware of that.
...
They're actually pretty financially competitive. An example of a rich man's toy would be a high-end automobile (like an Audi. Or a Beemer.) or elitist computer (like an Apple.) ---how could the service be considered a rich man's toy when the base pack...

Who new PTT could be so fun?

I bet you never thought you'd see such a conversation about PTT??
its the biggest longest discussion about us cellular too. longer than the entire us cellular forum.
the difference between the words "new" and "knew" that is...

😎 Sorry - just in an a-hole mood today.
...
Good to see more a-holes! Woo-hoo! I thought I was one of the only ones! I new exactly what I was typing... 🙂

You would have to read all of the posts from Nextel18 to get my sarcasm. Then again, I probably wouldn't waste my time either...

Corrections

There are a few things that are incorect in that article. You can actually connect with up to 25 SpeedTalk equiped handsets. Also, the plans mirrior U.S. Cellular's current price plans but cost $10 more for the primary. It is only a $10 verticle feature on select buisness plans.

Thank you for your time.
Also, for speedtalk plans that have multiple phones, the price of a sharetalk line will be going from $15 up to $20. However, for regular voice plans that don't have speedtalk, they will stay $15.
