Google Acquires Waze
Google today announced that it has acquired Waze, a company that provides real-time data on traffic conditions. According to Google, Waze and its engineering team will remain in Israel for now, but its technology will eventually be added to Google Maps to help improve its live traffic features. A lot of Waze's traffic data is generated by a community of users. Google said that it will work with the community, too, to make sure that the app's data is always current. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Google today updated its Google Maps app for Android devices with new tab-based tools meant to help access real-time information with a single tap. Moving forward, three tabs appear at the bottom of Maps' home screen: places, driving, and transit.

People can now use their voice to take full command of Google Maps when in the car. Google updated Maps today and added more support for "Ok, Google"-based voice commands.
Google Maps Now Available Offline
Google today said Maps can now be used without an active internet connection. People can download maps for cities, counties, and even entire countries so routing and basic navigation tools will function when there's a poor connection or no connection at all.
Driving Mode In Google Maps Predicts Your Destination
Google is adding a feature to Google Maps for Android today that guesses where drivers want to go and then helps them get there. Driving Mode factors in the user's home and work addresses, in addition to other destinations from previous searches.
