LinkedIn for WP8 Updated with Live Tile Support
A new version of LinkedIn for Windows Phone 8 adds support for Live Tiles. WP8 owners can put LinkedIn on their Start screen in three different Tile sizes, and it will now update automatically with new content. Other new features in LinkedIn for WP8 include lock screen support for LinkedIn Today imagery; speech recognition support for voice commands; and support for more languages, including French, German, Chinese, and Spanish. LinkedIn version 1.5 for Windows Phone is free to download from the Windows Phone Store.
Instagram for Windows Grabs Huge Update
Facebook today announced three new apps for the Windows 10 platform, including a proper Instagram app for phones, and dedicated Facebook and Messenger apps for desktops. The Instagram app for Windows 10 Mobile includes features that have long been available only to the Android and iOS apps, including Instagram Direct, videos, the Explore tab, and more.
Google Brings In-App Search to Android Phones
Google this week announced a new tool for searching the content on devices. The search mode, called In Apps, allows people to find content that's buried inside apps installed on the phone.
Microsoft's Garage Team Brings News Pro App to iPhone
Microsoft has released News Pro for iOS devices, a news- and article-aggrating app that delivers "hyper-relevant" news to users based on their interests. In the same vein as Apple News, Pro News from Microsoft allows users to select from more than one million topics to receive catered results.
Google's Speech-to-Text App Gains New Powers
Google recently updated its Text-to-Speech app for Android devices and gave the tool a handful of new features. The app adds support for Bengali, Danish, English, Finnish, Hungarian, Norwegian, and Mandarin.
