The NFC Forum today announced that Google has raised its stake in the organization from the Principal level to the Sponsor level. This is significant because it gives Google a seat on the NFC Forum Board of Directors and the ability to vote on NFC Forum-led initiatives and standards.

The NFC Forum today approved the Signature Record Type Definition (RTD) 2.0 technical specification, which will help authenticate the data stored on NFC tags. According to the NFC Forum, Signature RTD 2.0 lets developers verify the integrity of data within NFC Data Exchange Format messages, which is the core of how NFC tags and devices communicate with one another.
NFC Forum Hopes Developer Program Will Kickstart Apps
The NFC Forum today launched the NFC Developer Program, a series of resources aimed to help developers create NFC-enabled apps. The NFC Developer Program will include events, as well as web-based tools, such as SDKs, tech specs, news, and product highlights.
