Google today made the Snapseed mobile photo editing application available to its Android platform for the first time. Google acquired the company behind Snapseed, Nik Software, earlier this year. Snapseed was previously only available to the iPhone. The application is a rich photo editing tool that Google says goes far beyond the simple filters of other mobile apps, such as Instagram. More importantly, the application includes native support for Google+, Google's budding social network, so that Snapseed users can more easily share their edited photos online. Google also announced a new feature for Google+ called Communities. The Communities feature will serve as hubs for Google+ users to discuss a particular interest, hobby, or topic, and includes the ability to share photos, articles, and create/join hangouts. Snapseed will hit the Google Play Store later today and the Communities feature of Google+ will become available over the next few days. Google is also offering a revised version of Snapseed for iOS, which is free.
