Research In Motion today made a new version of BlackBerry Messenger available to BlackBerry 7 devices that adds the ability to make voice calls. The new calling feature works over Wi-Fi and connects BBM users to other BBM users for free. The app supports a split-screen function that lets customers talk and text at the same time. The app includes a presence indicator so users know when their contacts are available for a voice call. Calls can be rejected with a text message, and the service works with accessories, such as Bluetooth headsets. The new BBM for BlackBerry 7 is available in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. It is free to download and use. RIM did not indicate if this feature will be included in BBM for is forthcoming BlackBerry 10 platform.

BBM for BlackBerry 7

I have the Torch 2 with OS7 and currently i have the 6.2.0.44 version of BBM.

When i click the link for the download via the PC, its takes me to the appworld website that shows "6.2.0.56" version for to download for the voice calls feature; when i try to download it from the mobile site, it gives me the 6.2.0.44, just the same. ๐Ÿ˜•

You can only get it from the Blackberry Beta Zone...if you're interested you may be able to sign up for the Beta Zone and test it out.

The full version won't be available until Blackberry 10 comes out.
