Apple today announced a reorganization of its executive ranks, including some promotions and departures. Notably, iOS design vice president Scott Forstall plans to leave the company in early 2013. He will serve an advisory role to CEO Tim Cook between now and then. Craig Federighi will take over Forstall's responsibilities for iOS development in addition to leading OS X development. Hardware designer Jony Ive will take on new responsibilities for designing the user interface of iOS and OS X. Eddie Cue is also being given new responsibilities, and he will lead development for Apple Maps and Siri moving forward. Last, John Browett is leaving Apple. Browett was brought in earlier this year to revitalize Apple's retail stores. Apple said a search for Browett's replacement us under way, but it has yet to name a successor.
