Apple and Verizon Wireless have made a small software update available to the iPhone that resolves Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity problems. The error inadvertently caused Verizon iPhone 5s to connect to Verizon's data network even when a Wi-Fi network was available. This resulted in some customers seeing large data usage attributed to their Verizon account when they believed they were using Wi-Fi. The update resolves this issue, and will allow the Verizon iPhone 5 to use Wi-Fi instead of Verizon's cellular network when Wi-Fi is available. The carrier settings update can be initiated directly from the iPhone's settings menus. The new version of the Verizon carrier software is 13.1. This update does not apply to the Sprint or AT&T variants of the iPhone 5.
