LG today announced the Optimus G, a new flagship smartphone that boasts a 13-megapixel camera. The Optimus G runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and can run two applications side-by-side at the same time on the display. The Optimus G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor running at 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM. The display measures 4.7 inches and has a 1280 x 768 pixels in a 15:9 aspect ratio. The main camera comes with a host of features beyond the impressive pixel count. LG says it has a smart shutter, which pays attention to vibration of the camera or the movement of the subject and adjusts the shutter speed accordingly to get the most in-focus shot possible. It also has features such as "time catch shot" and "cheese shutter," which activates the shutter via voice commands such as when the subjects say the word "cheese". The camera can also reduce noise in low-light shooting situations. The user-facing camera can shoot 1.3-megapixel images and both record HD video. The video player has a zoom feature that can be used during playback. The Optimus G supports 2G, 3G, and LTE 4G networks, in addition to Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, aGPS, MHL, and NFC. The G comes with a feature called Application Link that will, for example, present the calendar, email, and weather on the display when the owner shuts off the alarm in the morning. The Optimus G has 32GB of built-in storage and a 2,100mAh battery. The Optimus G will go on sale in LG's home market of Korea next week, and will spread to other markets later this year. LG said the Optimus G will be made available in the U.S. starting in November, though it didn't specify which network operator will sell it.
