Research In Motion (RIM) today announced that phones running its next major OS - BlackBerry 10 - are now not expected to hit the market until next year. BlackBerry 10 phones were previously promised by the end of 2012. The announcement came as part of quarterly earnings news for Q1, which included additional bad news for the company. The company's revenues plummeted 33% compared to the previous quarter, leading to a quarterly loss of $518 million. The company is currently undergoing a restructuring that will result in 5,000 jobs shed.

They used to be huge!

I can't believe how quickly they became nothing in the wireless world. I realize they still have customers, but unless you already have a Blackberry who would even consider them now??
No one even cricket has the iPhone 4s. I used to see them with Blackberrys but no more.
Not everything is bleak, so far in 2012, there actually has been an INCREASE in subscribers....and in 2011 they sold 50 million handsets...

The world still needs...

...a long-lasting phone dedicated to email.

I don't know the current state of Blackberries, but there was a time when a Blackberry had a slow processor and lasted a lot longer than the feature-laden phones. In case anyone didn't notice, our fancy new ultra phones can barely make it a whole day. They are really lame traveling devices.
Blackberries still have exceptionally good battery life....they easily last 3-4 days on a charge with moderate usage, and 2 days on heavy usage....
They are still that way. The processors still aren't the latest and greatest. They aren't slow either.
Battery life is still a priority. I always charge every night anyway out of habit, but like T-Bone said you can get through several days if you are...

You weren't going to buy one anyway. Why do you care? Rolling Eyes
Almost feel bad for them. They are sinking and all you can do is wait for it to fully be sunk!

I'm Torn

I'm a loyal Blackberry user going back many years and I WANT to stick with the platform...I've been sitting on my upgrade since March....I can't wait until NEXT March I need to upgrade sometime this year...

So do I just get a Blackberry 7 device and hope that maybe by the time I am eligible for my next upgrade 18 months later, that MAYBE Blackberries will still be around and that Blackberry 10 will be ready....

Or do I just say 'to hell with Blackberry' and pick up a new Windows 8 device when they are released around October?

Right now I'm about 50/50...
I was in this position late last year. I got a Torch 9850 running 7.1 and it's been dead reliable. OS7 is much better than 5 in it's appearance.

My guess:
-BB10 and the phones that come with it will be introduced much to the dismay of 90% of phone...
You should have gotten an android, iOS, or MS a long time ago. Backberry will never change they will always be the Curve 8310 and nothing else. What makes you think blackberry won't push the date back to 2014 thats if they are still around.
I would say hang in there, I have the bb9930 and I love it, I had an HTC EVO and mytouch 4 g. We all know that as far as apps and browsing android is great, but I got tired of the having to charge the battery up 2 to 3 times a day. These bulky android...

With any more delays

they will have to change their name to "Research Not in Motion" Laughing
Best. RIM. Joke. Ever. Laughing Laughing

(Aw... now I feel bad for laughing.)

What are they doing?!

In two years there may be no RIM.
The last time a delay was announced they said that they were waiting for the special dual core processors they would need, and their supplier had a shortage...

There's no explanation for this delay....and if is a parts shortage I say it is time to ...
Try six months. They will be bought, sold, or split up in a serious way. Investors will demand it. Being a public company in decline is tough.

I Feel Bad For RIM

I really want a BB10 with a physical keyboard. Looks like it will be three years.
