Pantech's latest quick messaging device for AT&T is the Swift, a cute little touch-and-type slider that brings some personality back to the world of cell phones.

Pantech's Swift is a small, stylish slider that focuses on providing plenty of messaging tools. It includes access to social networking vitals such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace, and, in addition to individual applications for these services, also bundles them together in AT&T's SocialNet application.

The Swift is a comfortable, pocketable phone that's well put together and has a great feel to it. The materials are nice, the quality is solid and it is easy to use. All of the buttons feel really good. The volume toggle on the left has an excellent feel to it, as does the power/lock button on the right.

The slider mechanism works very well and requires almost no effort to open up. The QWERTY keyboard is compact and has a great feel to it. The buttons are not slippery and are instead covered with a soft-touch paint giving them some grip. The shape of the buttons is good, and the travel and feedback are excellent.

The user interface is about what you expect from a touch device that isn't a smartphone. It is limited in its capabilities, but still offers some customization options.

There are three basic home screens that can be populated with widgets, shortcuts, and other content. It is a breeze to add the content, and each of the home screens can scroll up-and-down so you can stuff them full. The Swift has a capacitive touch screen and I found it worked fairly well with the user interface. It wasn't lightning fast, but it wasn't slow, either.

The main menu is made of several grids that move side-to-side. These are stuffed with all the main applications and features of the Swift. Since we're talking about a feature phone, that means a basic set of features and tools. There are messaging app, a camera, video player, music player, navigation and account controls from AT&T, and of course email and such.

Here's a video tour of the Pantech Swift so you can get a good idea of what the phone offers:

Looks pretty nice for a QMD

Though I can tell you right now, the price and color are going to be two turn-offs for most consumers. In the age of people wanting to be handed free phones, a device that's $119.99 with a $50 mail-in rebate isn't about to fly off the shelves.
Troof. Pile of poop, but not worth $119.99.
