Samsung Kicks Off Samsung Display
Samsung today announced that it has officially launched Samsung Display, a spin-off of its LCD panel-making business. The new company will operate separately from Samsung Electronics, which will still make AMOLED displays for smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. Donggun Park, executive vice president and head of the former Samsung Electronics' LCD Business, was elected CEO of Samsung Display.
Samsung Mobile Chief Given A Chance to Turn It Around
Samsung will not replace the head of its mobile electronics business, J.K. Shin, as had been suggested last month.
Samsung Combines Some U.S. Operations
Samsung took several steps today to further streamline operations across its various businesses. In the U.S., Samsung has consolidated the sales organizations of Samsung Electronics America and Samsung Telecommunications America, which oversee distribution of the company's consumer electronics and mobile devices, respectively.
Samsung Electronics' CEO Resigns Unexpectedly
Kwon Oh-hyun, CEO and Vice President of Samsung Electronics Corp., today announced plans to step down from his leadership role with the company. "As we are confronted with unprecedented crisis inside out, I believe that time has now come for the company start anew, with a new spirit and young leadership to better respond to challenges arising from the rapidly changing IT industry," said Kwon in an email sent to employees.
Samsung Executive to Be Charged with Bribery
The special prosecutor's office in South Korea today said it will charge Samsung Executive Jay Y. Lee in a bribery case that has shaken the country.
