RIM Buys RF Engineering Firm
Research In Motion today announced that is has acquired a company called Paratek Microwave. Paratek creates adaptive tuning technologies for multi-band handsets. RIM says the Pareatek team has been added to its own radio engineering team, where it will help RIM refine the radios in its phones. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Google Picks Up Panorama Photo Firm
Google has acquired a small startup called Digisfera, which specializes in 360-degree photography. The company will be added to Google's Street View team, where its technology will be used to enhance and improve Street View imagery.
Google Closes Acquisition of HTC Hardware Team
Google today said it has completed its proposed acquisition of select assets from HTC. The deal includes portions of HTC's handset design team, among other properties.
Pandora Finalizes Rdio Technology Acquisition
Pandora today said it has wrapped up its acquisition of Rdio. The deal gives Pandora technology, intellectual property, and about 100 former Rdio employees.
Motorola Confirms Some Layoffs, But Says Moto Z Phones Safe
Motorola this week confirmed that it has released employees at its Chicago headquarters, though it insisted the impact to its handset team was minimal. Moreover, the company sought to quell rumors that its line of Moto Z handsets was in jeopardy.
