The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said yesterday they had sued two companies that falsely claimed their products could block electromagnetic waves emitted from cell phones that some fear could cause brain cancer. The products in question are sold under the names "SafeTShield," "NoDanger" and "WaveShield". The consumer-protection agency said it would seek to bar the devices from the marketplace and return consumers' money. An FTC official said there was no scientific evidence that the so-called radiation shields blocked any radiation, and could actually increase radiation exposure.
