Nokia today announced it is working with MasterCard International to trial a new method for mobile payments. The key component is a SmartCover™ faceplate for a Nokia phone, which is embedded with an RF chip. The chip is programmed with MasterCard account information as part of the new MasterCard PayPass proximity payment technology. Consumers tap or wave their phones on a PayPass reader to make a payment. The trial will launch later this month at a handful of retailers in Irving, TX.
