AT&T Wireless and Cingular announced today that they have officially formed the joint venture to build out GSM/GPRS service targeting more than 4,000 miles of rural highways in the United States. Plans for the venture were first announced in January 2002. The companies also announced that they have expanded the agreement to include major highways in Vermont, New Hampshire, and upstate New York, in addition to the originally targeted highways in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota, New Mexico, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah. Operations are expected to commence this month, with various sections being completed in 2003 and 2004.
