FCC Delays Wireless Number Portability

The Federal Communications Commission yesterday extended the deadline one year for wireless companies to install technology for number portability, to Nov. 24, 2003. The decision was in response to a petition filed by Verizon Wireless last July. Among other reasons, the FCC said the extension would give the carriers additional time to guard against potential network disruptions, train personnel and make sure the change does not interfere with the commission's E-911 initiative.
