Alaskan service provider ACS Wireless has selected Nortel Networks to upgrade its wireless network with CDMA2000 1X technology under a four-year agreement. Nortel will provide ACS with a turnkey solution, for what is expected to be Alaska's first CDMA2000 1X network. Deployment is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2002. The agreement also includes Nortel's Mobile Location Center, which provides the location of mobile subscribers. This will position ACS to meet FCC E911 Phase II requirements, and provide a platform for personalized services such as personal navigation, mapping, fleet tracking, and roadside assistance.
