for the Samsung Zeal / Alias 2 SCH-U750:
Great phone
This is the first non-PDA device I've used in a year, and so far I am impressed. For the most part it's a pretty straightforward messaging phone. The design is largely uninspired (the u740 took its design cues from the RAZR, the u750 looks like it took its design cues from the a610--remember that one?), at least as far as the outside goes. But flip it open and it literally shows its stuff. The E-ink feature is really slick: ...

for the LG Dare VX-9700:
Best VZW Touch Phone
I've had most of the newer phones, blackberry, venus, voyager, i760, etc. Long story short, if you're not after a PDA phone or blackberry, and you don't want a keyboard like the voyager, this is the phone. VZNav, music, internet, good camera, good call quality, and oh yeah, the touch screen is impressive. Pros: *Good all-around multi-function phone, best non-PDA Verizon has to offer, best touch screen phone. *Web browser works fairly well. *Games are fun with the touch screen (collapse ...

for the BlackBerry Pearl 8130:
Great email machine, good at everything else
I've been using this phone for a few months now, and it's pretty much a keeper. Here's my thoughts: Pros: *Size: after using the Q, Q9m, and i760, it's refreshing to have a small phone! *3.5mm jack: now my Zune stays at home as a mass storage and I carry all my favorites with me. *Email: it's easy to set up and use, and it just works. I don't miss emails like I did with VZW wireless sync. *Camera and flash: awesome, ...

(Currently) The Best VZW PDA Phone
After waiting for almost a year, it's finally here! I took one of these as a demo for our store, and depending on how this stacks up to the Pearl, I may be keeping it. This phone is LOADED! Windows Media Player, Mobile Office, Internet Explorer Mobile AND Picsel Browser, Wifi, and the list goes on. There is very little that I want to do with this phone that I can't (sadly no navigator or brew applications). I ...

for the Samsung Juke U470:
Good for what it does
I tried this phone out from our store for a day, so this is definetly a first-impressions revew. This is definitely a niche phone, just like the enV, Blackberries, and Gz'One meet a certain type of user. If you're looking for a music phone and don't need expandable memory, VCAST, or easy texting, this is the phone for you. I'm assuming the phone side will be at least acceptable for sound quality. Pros: *GREAT sound quality (not as good as my ...

for the Casio G'zOne Type-S:
Good for what it is
I demoed this phone for a week or so from the store I work at, and here are my thoughts: Pros: durability, GREAT reception, this model is bluetooth-enabled (an obvious oversight on the type V). Cons: bluetooth is a bit finicky, speakerphone and rigntones could be louder (the waterproofing probably limits them), no memory card slot (on the upside, one less potential weak point for water), it's big. Since I live and work in South Dakota, I don't have to travel ...

for the Audiovox PPC-6600 / PPC-6601 / XV6600 (HTC Harrier):
A decent ebay find
I bought this phone off of ebay just to see if I would like the smartphone concept. I needed something that had a speakerphone, bluetooth, and could edit Microsoft Word and Excel. This phone was the cheapest that met all those requirements, and although it has its shortcomings, it is a good "first smartphone," and will serve as a decent backup phone if my new smartphone ever needs replacement. I would not recommend this phone for ...

for the Casio G'zOne Type-V:
Rugged phone, decent reception
Pros: the obvious nigh indestructibility, decent signal strength. Cons: size, no bluetooth, accessories are limited. I work at a cell phone store in SD, and decided to demo the phone for a day or two. I activated it on my line, made a few test calls, and then drove to a few known poor coverage areas around town to test it out for service. In places where some phones would drop calls (mostly in some valleys outside ...

for the Nokia 6305i:
Good phone, too expensive
I don't own it, but I work at a Verizon retailer, and have played around with it quite a bit. Here is my rundown: PROS: great reception, solid design, the absolute best 1-megapixel camera I've seen on a phone to date. CONS: slightly larger than similar phones, no bluetooth, no memory card slot, very expensive, especially considering its limited features. If you want an mp3 player for your phone, get the chocolate for less money and put the difference ...

for the Motorola V710:
If you can find one for cheap, go for it!
I managed to snag this one as a free upgrade--it's being phased out as RadioShack moves to Sprint and Cingular. I'd have gone for the E815 but I need tri-mode where I live, and the new Nokia equivalent wasn't available yet. It's an awesome phone for free, though I couldn't imagine paying the hundreds that some shelled out for this when it was brand new. A lot of people have been complaining about the limitations of its bluetooth, ...
