The Perfect Combo of Convenience, Portability & Style
I used a StarTac for the last several years and found it to be the perfect phone for just talking. When it began to disintegrate, I went through the following trials: :< Motorola V710 (useless camera and crippled Bluetooth) :< LG VX8000 (too big & ugly and no Bluetooth) :< Sony-Ericcson S710a (style says camera - photos say don't bother carrying this brick) :< Motorola E815 (after comparing so many other phones, the cheap build quality was unacceptable) :< Samsung A940 (style says ...

Getting closer, but not there yet....

PROs • Amazing external screen • Great internal screen • Clear and loud speakerphone • Above average 1.3 MP camera w/video • Accurate voicedial (training req'd) • Solid call quality • Nice build quality and tolerances • High-speed network phone • Wonderful keypad and backlighting • Strong vibrate • Self-portrait mode using external screen • Camera custom settings • Intuitive menus and controls CONs • Cosmetics; face design/boxy shape/big • Must use headset to dial when closed • Earpiece sound piercing and tinny • Plays MP3s, but sound horrible even at 64k • Can only save 30 photos ...
Too Much $ For a Low-Tech Phone
PROs * Batter life * Voice recognition CONs * No speakerphone * No email * No webbrowser * No bluetooth * Only 8MB for photos, LG VX-8000 has 64MB * VCAST audio noise * Slow processor for games * No MP3 player for ringtones etc. Conclusion: Very expensive option for a relatively low-tech phone. The LG-VX8000 is much more sophisticated and worth the money.
Poorly Designed & Built
PROs + Voice dialing/command + Speakerphone + Internal display CONs - Photo quality - Earpiece volume - Case build quality - Keypad build quality & lighting - Bluetooth does not work for file transfer; only headsets/handsfree and modem (dial-up) - Easily scratched case - External display resolution; useless for photo caller ID (which is provided) - Menu system - Off-center cyclops camera lens location - Camera lens frequently mounted on a slight tilt in phone casing - Photo flash - Battery life - Size & weight - Must use Motorola's external wallpapers
