for the BlackBerry Tour 9630:
Nice addition to Verizon's BlackBerry lineup
I received mine yesterday and won't be keeping it - more on that in a bit - but overall, it's a great addition to VZW's lineup! Pros: * EV-DO Rev. A is great for browser use and PC tethering! Using TetherBerry, I consistently get 1.1 Mbps down/0.6 Mbps up, compared to 400 Kbps down and a measly 15 Kbps up on my Rev. 0 Pearl. * Miraculously, VZW didn't cripple the GPS! The 9630 works well with Google Maps (4 meter accuracy ...

for the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230:
Not a worthwhile upgrade to the Verizon Pearl 8130
Those on Verizon who already own the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 will not find the Pearl Flip 8230 a worthwhile upgrade unless you're desperately in need of a new device because of classic Pearl trackball problems or otherwise. Given the capabilities of the Storm, I decided to try the Pearl Flip 8230 in hopes that it, like the Storm, would have uncrippled GPS for use with Google Maps and Garmin Mobile. On par with typical Verizon BS, no such luck. ...

for the BlackBerry Pearl 8130:
The neediest smartphone you will ever own
If you're looking for the most unreliable, quirky, erratically functioning excuse for a smartphone that money can buy, put the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 for Verizon at the top of your wishlist! When I first received my Pearl, I was pretty happy with it. I was very pleased with the size of the device, particularly how easily it fits in a pants pocket, the SureType keyboard was fantastic, and battery life was unmatched. But soon I found myself bowing to the Pearl's ...

for the Samsung Sway U650:
Pretty decent, but with one big annoyance ... Back it goes.
For someone who already owns a recent Verizon handset, there really is no compelling reason to run to a VZW store to pick one of these up, especially at the current $69 price point with 2-year contract. However, for someone looking for a low to midrange slider, it isn't half bad, and it'll a better value once the price drops a bit. The two most important things about a phone in my opinion, audio quality and reception, are very good. ...

for the Motorola W385:
One of Verizon's best
This new addition to Verizon's lineup is really fantastic! I find it almost strange that Verizon is still releasing phones that do not have EV-DO, but to me, 1xRTT is just fine for the few occasions that I actually use Mobile Web, so I do not mind the strange omission. It's hard to tell from the pictures online, but the front and back of this phone are coated in the same rubbery coating as the PEBL, which is great both ...

for the Nokia 6300:
Not perfect, but pretty darn close
Coming back to GSM after fairly brief experimentation with locked-down CDMA and iDEN handsets, I recently started back with T-Mobile with a freebie Samsung Trace SGH-T519. Not a bad phone, especially when free after rebate, but I wasn't totally impressed with reception or call volume. With Nokia being well-known for its superior reception, I decided to pick up an unlocked Nokia 6300b (triband GSM 850/1800/1900) to replace the Samsung. I've got a few small gripes, but overall, it's a ...

for the Samsung Wafer R510:
Still not ready for primetime
After a long backorder due to the popularity of this phone, I received mine yesterday from Alltel's second batch of Wafers, hoping that Alltel and Samsung had now conquered the infamous echo problem you've surely read about in the reviews below and in the threads on Howardforums. Unfortunately, that is not yet the case. Although the Wafer is admittedly a very nice phone in concept, it still is unable to serve the primary purpose of having a cell phone ...

for the Motorola ic502 Buzz:
The ultimate downgrade
I've been genuinely interested in trying the whole CDMA/iDEN hybrid concept out and finally got the opportunity to use one of these phones today, and I was totally unimpressed. One of the worst things about Motorola iDEN phones in comparison to Motorola CDMA/GSM phones is T9, in my opinion. I've always been a huge iTap fan, which every modern Moto phone except for the iDEN models have, so I was excited to try out text messaging on the CMDA/iDEN ...

for the Motorola PEBL U6:
Grossly overpriced and poorly executed
I was quite excited when my fully unlocked, unbranded PEBL U6 landed on my doorstep, and I was initially quite impressed with it. However, I soon realized that Motorola concentrated far too much on the PEBL's aesthetics and threw function in afterwards. For a $300+ phone with only very basic features, I was *minimally* expecting it to be able to perform its basic functions really well, but even *that* was asking a bit too much. First, the pros. The design ...

for the Samsung MM-A920:
Lots of advanced features but lacking the basics
I've been with Verizon for quite some time, but unfortunately, I'm in a heavily populated area where Sprint has had EV-DO coverage since Q4 2005 but VZW hasn't bothered to offer the same. Tired of waiting for VZW to catch up, I finally decided to try the Samsung A920, one of Sprint's three currently offered Power Vision (EV-DO) handsets. One of the biggest pros of this phone, in my opinion, is its design and build quality. The phone has a ...

for the Motorola E815 / E816 Hollywood:
Has to be Verizon's best Motorola phone yet!
Having owned the Motorola V60s, V265, V710 (which was so miserable and bug-ridden that I sent it back and reactivated the lowly V265), and now the E815, I'd have to say this is the best Motorola CDMA product Verizon has offered to date! The size and form of the phone seem just right to me, the internal screen is bright and crisp, battery life has been great for me, and I haven't experienced any of the random freeze-ups, crashes, ...

for the Motorola V265 / V266 / V276:
Excellent phone overall, but a bit quirky
I've had quite a few Motorola phones in my day, including a C331t (TDMA), V60s (CDMA), i205, i530, & i830 (iDEN), and now that I'm back with Verizon once again, a V265 (CDMA). I had horrible luck with the last Motorola CDMA phone I owned before venturing into Nextel territory, and was iffy about trying another Motorola CDMA product, but the V265 has proved to be a good performer thus far. The design of the V265 is very cool, and ...

for the Motorola v60p / v60s:
Nice phone overall, but software needs work
It seems that I'm one of the few people left that doesn't want their phone to also be a camera, 2-way radio, and back scratcher. :o) I bought my V60s from Verizon's limited line-up of non-camera phones 2 weeks ago, and it's been pretty good overall, but the software (8600_03.0F.00) still needs work. I haven't experienced any of the more severe bugs reported here (calls going straight to voicemail, etc.), but there are still bugs nonetheless. As far as pros ...

for the Motorola i530:
You'd be hard pressed to find better!
I've always been pretty loyal to Motorola as far as cell phones go, and while I like my other Motorolas, this one is by far the best I've ever had. Living in a more rural area, signal strength is my first priority when it comes to picking out a cell phone, and the reception on the i530 here in northwest CT on Nextel's network is absolutely incredible. Calls are loud -- so loud that if you put the earpiece ...
