Not built in, but it is an option. Just need to purchase the HGE-100 wired handsfree with remote control and built in GPS. It plugs in like the stock headset, is about the same size as the remote for the iPod, and retails for a hundred bucks, although you can find it on ebay and Amazon for less. If thats not your cup of tea, I use a wireless bluetooth gps module with my W580i. I picked it up ...

Because they *are* releasing it. Soon, I would expect. They need to start releasing some quality phones to pick up the slack between now and the eventual roll out of the new iPhone, whenever that happens.

Per the FCC website, AT&T *WILL* be getting this phone shortly. If you go to the main product info page, the second FCC filing by AT&T can be found there dated March 6th, as well as the instruction manual in PDF format with AT&T network and media now info throughout. Like I said in a different post, just because they are employed by SE, that doesn't mean they are the final word. No info on pricing or availability, but ...

Yeah, I heard from an SE rep that Cellular One would be getting the K850 around Thanksgiving, and this was from the kind that travels with test models and slideshow presentations and not just some random employee on the customer service hotline. Take it all with a grain of salt folks. If they get it, they'll get it. If not, oh well, buy an unlocked one online. Coincidentally though, Engadget had some leaked powerpoint slides from an AT&T meeting ...

And you have full access to all of AT&T's WAP sites too, or just wireless data? This is kinda important seeing how a lot of AT&T's advanced features can only be accessed through their WAP portal.

It can be done, but the problem is AT&T's network will do a quick sniff of your firmware and if it's not their version it will either completely lock out your phone from the data network, or at least block your access to AT&T WAP sites. This is mainly done to cripple unlocked phones on their network, but I haven't got a definate answer yet from anyone with the required know-how as to how the network will see Dobson ...

You do understand the way GSM works, right? They don't have to change didly squat network-wise, as if that were the case, roaming wouldn't exist and my cellone handset would go dead after the new year. The only thing that seperates my w580 from an AT&T w580 is the firmware running it, theirs being locked down with proprietary nonsense. While it's true that not all stores have the equipment to reflash a handset, at least one in a ...

I contacted customer support, and they confirmed that even if your cellone handset is of a same make and model that AT&T currently sells, you're still required to purcahase a new phone. Gizmodo and Engadget have both been tossing around a few slides from AT&T's powerpoint presentation for their various domestic and international partners, and in one of them the K850 is clearly listed as being available in March 2008. This jives with everything I've heard so far from other sources, which all pointed at a Q1 08 roll out. After all, they need something to fill in the void left by the apparent delay of the new 3G iPhone that ...

Having now owned both phones, I'm pretty sure I can give you the answers you're looking for. In short: wait till March for the K850 if at all possible. I like the 580, it's a good phone for what it is, and better then anything else currently available officially at it's price point. That being said, it's no 810i. It does everything the N95 does, and that's going for 600 bucks and up right now. It doesn't come with the 4gigs of built in mem, but you can pick up a 4gig SD card for under 50 bucks on ebay right now so that's no really an issue. It's going for about 500-600 bucks on ebay right now so I'd say 299 with 2 year contract is a fair estimate for the 850, and possibly 199 with contract for thw W910 if they decide to pick that one up too. One for pix, one for music... sounds like a good plan to me but who knows what AT&T will wind up doing.

As a fellow W810 owner, I'm extremely excited about this phone. I was very close to picking up a W580 before I heard the 850 was going to be released this year. What are you talking about? This phone is smoking and while the keypad is different at first, it's easy to master once you get used to the touch bar. Everything about this phone is solid, and in contrast to other products from Samsung and Motorola, actually feels like it would survive a drop or too as my W810 has many times.

That's not really highend considering Asia and Europe have both had phones at that resolution for over a year now. Looking over AT&T's website and price lists, I'm gonna say this is probably gonna be 199 with 2 year contract like Snar said. Maybe less with rebate, as that is a busy shopping time and there are many other phones being released from other makers in late Q4 as well. All in all, I know what's on my christmas ...

Keep in mind that is most likely due to being lucky enough to have dealt with a good person at AT&T, and not a good employee FOR AT&T. I've worked for two providers, and for both, established policy was to either get customers like you to upgrade, cancel, or if all else failed, let you twist in the wind and provide zero tech support if anything went wrong. (I used to work for CellOne until I left to go back to college full time) I've heard of some customers who managed to keep their old rate plans when the change took place, but it took a lot of arguing and in the end, that plan is only good for the life of the phone, or ...

True. Keep in mind though that some of these rural networks are very outdated, and will most likely cost a fortune to upgrade. It's one thing if the provider is local, but I have heard of class action lawsuits brought against companies that fail to offer the same level of service to one set of customers as they do others. As I'm sure the people crunching the numbers for both companies aren't idiots, I wonder how much of the ...

While I agree with everything you said, keep in mind that maintaining a rural cell network is about three times as expensive as an urban one. What's more, rural customers are also per capita the most displeased overall with their service, as local factors make providing the same level of coverage there as they find in major cities next to impossible. The added number of angry callers, combined with the increased call time required to deal with said customers, ...

Actually it's not the largest in AK, just the only national brand that offers service here natively. They do have the largest network (but not by much) but the local company, ACS, has a larger customer base in part to better call quality as well as their highspeed EV-DO network compared to Dobson's 2G GSM network. Dobson's current network is actually leftover from the original AT&T wireless, which swapped customers in 2003 with Dobson only months before bringing the ...

Because being the largest company in the nation isn't the same as being the most profitable company in the nation maybe? I was raised in Alaska, and I can tell you right now that cell companies do not make money in most rural parts of the nation. Towers are expensive to put up and then maintain, and even when the equipment works, the signal still has to be shunted through ancient land lines that weren't designed for the bandwidth that's ...

Sorry to break it to you, but you're going to lose this fight. AT&T will only honor your contract until it expires, at which point you will either have to sign a new contract under their rate plans, or move to a different provider. A couple thousand of us went through this when AT&T traded customers in Alaska for some of Dobson's customers in California 4 years ago. There is a lot of legalese involved, but the short and ...

Except Western Wireless's "CellOne" brand isn't affiliated in any way with Dobson's "Cellular One" brand. The two get confused all the time, but as I found out when I was transfered to Abilene TX, and thought I could keep my current Cellular One contract. At least both use GSM, so I didn't have to buy a new phone.

More then likely, the SOP is going to be the same as when Dobson switched customers with the previous AT&T wireless back in 2003. At that time, Dobson and AT&T both honored each others' contracts, but only until the contract period expired. At that point, customers were required to sign up for new contracts/rates with the new company, and previous rate plans were not honored. I know how you feel because I went through the same thing back then, ...

The funny thing about this is if AT&T did wind up purchasing Dobson, everyone on the Cell One GSM network here is Alaska will wind up right back where we started.
